Dissemination Project – Diabetes Education to Prevent Readmission

Our project’s main focus was to create an educational flyer that would help decrease/prevent re-hospitalization for patients with diabetes. We brought our flyer onto our unit P3CD, where we put it on display for everyone to view. We hadn’t received any feedback on our poster, and I strongly believe this is due to MMC working full time to fight COVID-19. Overall I am extremely proud of the project that my group and I created, I strongly feel that this flyer will make a difference in inpatient care. We learned as a group how important education is for not only nurses but for everyone.

Topic Proposal – Dissemination Project

So far this project has been extremely insightful and has helped my whole group gain stronger researching skills. In the begging, we did have to change our topic a few times, as there wasn’t enough available literature. Once we switched up our question to a broader topic that fit our unit’s needs better, we were able to find more useful literature we could use. I feel like the team that I was in worked well together, we were able to meet up and get good quality work done on time. We also were all very good at regrouping once we got our rough draft proposal back, and realized that we didn’t fill it out correctly. Our group did a great job of helping each other out, if someone needed help filling out a section others were willing to step in help. On our unit, we saw a problem and knew that there was something we could do to try and solve/make the problem better. Overall I’m extremely proud of the work that we have done so far.

To start off, my favorite active reading strategy was when we would read through something twice. First time reading through we would go through with a highlighter or a pencil and underline the things that we felt were important. While reading through the first time, we would try to have an open mind to try and help us understand what the author was trying to say. The second time reading through we would annotate it and leave notes in the margins to help expand our thinking. My favorite brainstorming strategy was when we would cluster our ideas. This would help us find connections and similarities between different reading that we had done. It helped us come up with ideas and topics for our writings. My favorite drafting strategy was when we would start by writing our intro, then go and create all of the claim sentences that we wanted to use. This helped us make sure that we were sticking to our thesis, and it also showed us if we needed to change up our thesis to make it fit our side more. My favorite revision strategy would be peer reviews. I learned a lot of things from doing the peer reviews and I feel that you are able to get a lot out of it, such as new ideas and opinions. My favorite polishing strategy would be reading out loud to yourself. This way you are able to catch your last few mistakes. You are also able to hear if something sounds off or awkward.

I try to use these strategies when writing papers in my other classes. Usually though I use a few of them not all of them at once. I think that these strategies have helped me become a better writer.

In high school in my english classes we would do peer reviews except they weren’t helpful at all because the comments were’t effective or didn’t help much. Most of them were “I like this” or “change this” but no one would ever suggest what to change it to or even why to change it. In this english class the peer review is the best thing that has ever happened to me. Through sharing my writing with my peers they are able to give me honest feedback and they actually leave great comments that are effective and comments that I use to change and make my paper better. My peers are able to help me with their knowledge to make my paper better and also they are able to suggest new ideas that I could add into my papers. Peer reviewing my peers work has helped me a lot. Through reading others papers it has helped me with my own righting because sometimes I am able to see and notice what really strong writing looks like. Also through reading their papers I am able to see other views and opinions on topics and it helps open my mind to new ideas. I think that peer reviews really help my papers a lot and make them so much better. I honestly think that without peer reviews my papers would be a whole letter grade lower.

My goal for my paper is to be able to show that in the world there is a clear beauty and there is a hidden beauty. I want people to realize how much hidden beauty there is around them and how much of it is passed everyday without being noticed. I think that if people were able to slow down and take their time and stop and notice all the beauty around them they would be so much happier in life and they would realize how much they are missing. After reading through the comment that were left on my paper, I know that I need to go back through and reword some of my sentences. I also need to find an area where I can add the video from class and I need to talk about it some where. My peers didn’t mention this but in my paper I personally feel like my topics I was talking about didn’t mesh together well. I feel like my biggest struggle is going to be able to make them all work together. I started to see this problem at the end of class, and I went to you for further help as I couldn’t think of any other ways than I already had to make them work together. You gave me a couple of great suggestions on what I can do to help fix this problem. For further help I could also go back to you to see what else I could do to fix these problems. Or I could go to SASC, digi space, or use my books that I have for class.

In my paper I plan to use, linguistic, visual, audio and spatial modes of communication. By using these modes it should help me explain my point better and will help the to connect and understand what I am talking about. Throughout my paper I plan to talk about the hidden beauty there is around the world along with how the beauty of art can make people happier. For audio, I will put in clips of music or even speeches that I find beautiful or moving. This will help the reader follow along with what I’m talking about and they will be able to have a better understanding of it because they will be able to hear it as well. For visual, I will be adding pictures of things that I think are beautiful and that may have hidden beauty in them. I also want to add pictures of nature and talk about the kind of hidden beauty that can be found throughout nature. For spatial I will use quotes along with how I place my pictures and audio and I will also use hyperlinks.

Rough rough draft of what I want to talk about-

–  I plan to talk about the hidden beauty that is around the world. Throughout my paper I want to make sure to keep talking about how so many take art and its beauty for granted. Throughout this part in my paper I want to talk about nature and it’s beauty that it has. Along with how many forget about nature and what it holds. In this paragraph I want to talk about Hannah’s “Let’s Talk About Art” essay, I plan on quoting her. She made a lot of good points and she talks about how hiking and mountains have a greater meaning and how it makes her happy.

In one of my paragraphs I would like to talk societies view on what is beautiful and compare it to millennial’s view on beauty because I feel like they are different. I would also talk about my view of beauty and what I think it beautiful. Here I would be able to add audio clips along with pictures to help explain my points. In this paragraph I want to talk about the Aaron’s “Let’s talk about art” project that was done on a song.

– I want to talk about how beauty and art has impacted my life in many ways and how I have found balance in my life because of it. In this paragraph I plan to talk about Armstrong’s essay and pull a few quotes from there.

In John Armstrong’s essay “To regard beauty as a luxury adornment or a social signifier was to miss the true potential of the experience”, talks about a lot of important points that many people don’t realize but need to. He talks about how many only view beauty as physical beauty or something that is visually beautiful. But what a lot of people don’t realize is all the hidden beauty that there is and how amazing it can be. For me, I personally feel that people can find beauty in almost anything. I always try to find beauty in everything that I do and see because it brings me so much happiness. I think that confidence and uniqueness is so beautiful and stands out so much. I find bright colors beautiful along with arts, acts of kindness, personalities, and so many other creations. I feel that society has such a narrow view on what beauty is or should be. Society has built a certain image and idea of what beauty should be and what everyone should look like in order to feel beautiful. They also make people feel like they should think certain things are beautiful and if you think other wise, you become an outcast. I have noticed that it it’s different with millennials, they seem to be more open minded. I feel that this generation is starting to change how society views beauty. I feel like millennial’s are so much more accepting of new styles.  In Armstrong’s essay he says that,“We can’t hope to see why beauty matters to us unless we pay attention to them both. If we want to understand beauty, we can’t just talk about the things we find beautiful. We have to talk about our lives”. This quote shows how all the people see or talk about beauty thats on the outside, and miss all the beautiful things that are on the inside. When people do this it prevents that from talking about important subjects.

Liv’s 500 word essay really touched my heart. Throughout her essay she talks about so many deep and complicated concepts. She talks about her friend that has cancer and her experience with art in the hospitals and how it effected her time there. Her essay was so inspiring, she really made me think about how much art can touch people, especially ones who are suffering more than everyone else. I know that art impacts my life so much and I can’t believe what it can do for people who are suffering as well. She makes a good point that the art in the hospital can make the children forget about their problems and it lets them just be a kid for a little bit. After hearing about how big of an impact art had on the hospitals, it really made think about how art should be in every hospital. I think that hospitals should really consider adding all different kinds of art throughout their buildings because it can really lift the mood and make sick people happy in such a little way. Liv’s essay truly inspired me and it really made me want to go out and create something beautiful for others to enjoy. Her primary mode of communication was the 500 word essay. I think that this was a really good choice for her because she was able to really express her opinions and show emotion through her speaking. While she was reading her essay, she also had a slide show to show the art that she was talking about so the audience could follow along and understand better.

The purple highlighted words are all of the transition words that I used throughout my paper. I feel that I have an okay amount, but I would still like to add more. What I really noticed was that I used the same transition words a lot, so I want to go back through my paper and change some of the wording. The word “but” came up a lot and I could use the words, although, despite, however, instead so that its not to repetitive.

The words that are highlighted in my pointing words. By using these words it kept the point of the paper relevant and made it stronger. These words also help refer back to previous sentences that I was talking about. I notice that I really said art and science a lot but I feel that I didn’t over do it.

The blue highlighted areas are where I feel that I repeated my opinion. I noticed that a lot of times I talked about how art should be added into science.  I also just repeated the whole idea of adding art into science. I noticed that I talked about adding art into education a lot.

In the article, “The Future of Science… is Art” written by Jonah Lehrer talks a lot about in order to find more information about the ‘unknown’ people need to start using both science and art. One of the main points that Lehrer makes is that both science and art can benefit from looked and learning from each other. Lehrer made a really good point that made me start to think. He talked about how scientists are learning so much about everything, yet they are also so far away from learning everything. He goes on to talk about, how can scientist get all their questions answered when they don’t  even know what questions to be asking. This is a very good point and it just lead me to thinking about how much is outer that we really don’t know about. He then goes on to say “If we want answers to our most essential questions, then we will need to bridge our cultural divide”. He is talking about the divided between the art and science cultures. He feels that once the two come together more, amazing things will be discovered. This article was a lot harder to read for me. It was longer in length and just the language and ideas being talked about were a little out of my comfort zone and I had to read very slowly so that I could stay with the text.

Charles Percy Snow, know as C.P. Snow was a novelist for CBE and a English physical chemist. During the time of World War 2, he became a scientific adviser to for the British Government. C.P. Snow also wrote the 11 novel sequence that was part of novel called “Strangers and Brothers”. Then when on to writing more books about science and literature. In the article, “The Future of Science… is Art”  it says that C.P Snow was the one that “coined the two culture cliche”, this means that he was the one who made it clear that artist and scientistic would benefit from each other if they would only worked with each other and understand each others work.

Virginia Woolf was a English writer who used the stream of consciousness. She wanted to capture and write about “life as it was lived”. Woolf gained a lot of knowledge about the mind and used in in her novels. Her goal was to try and describe the mind and its works from the “inside”.
