Preparation for Licensure and Transition to Professional Practice

I was able to take my ATI results and use them to help me improve my test-taking skills. After examining my results closely I realized that I needed to slow down and take more time to read the question and most importantly all of the answers. I found that oftentimes I would read a question too fast, and would miss what it was actually asking. And then I would choose the wrong answer. I also learned that I need to take a small break throughout these longer tests because if I don’t I start to get streaks of wrong answers.

As I learned more about my test-taking styles I would say that my score began to get better. I would say that one of my weakest sections has always been medications and adverse effects. As time went on I definitely improved in this section. When looking at my results there weren’t any topics that I did really bad on compared to the other ones. As the semester progressed I improved in many different areas.

I learned a few valuable self-care strategies. I learned how to set myself up for success by bettering my time management skills, putting myself in a productive environment, and by finding a better balance between school/work and my personal life. I noticed that once I started doing these things, I felt way less stress in my life and I was able to perform better in school.

There is so much information that I will take away from this class and be able to use to help prepare myself for licensure and transition into the professional world. I’ve learned better test-taking and studying skills which I feel will help me tremendously while preparing for the NCLEX. And I also learned how to communicate and work with interdisciplinary teams which will be extremely beneficial once I start working in a hospital. Most importantly I learned how to hold myself to a high standard and how to properly represent myself as a nurse.

Clinical Exemplar

This clinical exemplar talks about a significant clinical experience that I was able to be a part of. I feel that this experience taught me about a different side of nursing that I had never personally seen before. This clinical experience made me extremely excited to become a nurse because it helped showed me how much I can help someone.

ATI Comprehensive Proctored Test

I feel like I did okay on this test. I know that I will begin to remember more information as I study more for the NCLEX. I feel like if this test was planned on a different day I would have done better. It was the last class of the day and we had just taken another 70 question ATI test right before so my brain felt a bit fried halfway through. Overall these tests and remediations help show me what areas I need to work on.

ATI Practice B Comprehensive

I’m very proud of how well I did on the comp B test. It’s really starting to feel like all the information that I have learned throughout my time in nursing school is really starting to come together. And that feeling is very rewarding. I believe that I performed better on this test because I set myself up to do better. I reviewed my old ATI remediations, and a few other notes that I’ve been taking along the way before taking this test. It really shows a difference in my score! When taking these tests, there are definitely some topics that come up more than others, I’m curious to see if this will be the same on the NCLEX. I feel like these ATI tests give me some ideas of what information will be important on the NCLEX, and what information I need to spend more time reviewing. This time around, when I wasn’t sure of the correct answer, I tried to read each answer as if it was a true or false question. This technique really helped me weed out the wrong answers, and choose the right one. Overall it’s exciting to see my score go up!

ATI Maternity Adaptive Test

On the maternal adaptive test, I scored in the 54th percentile. I think that I did pretty well on this test, as we had still not had a ⅓ of our maternity class taught yet. I think I would have been able to perform better if I was able to take the test at a further time as I would have learned a lot more information about mothers and newborns. After taking the ATI test, the next few maternity class, I realized that I had learned a lot of information that was on the ATI test. Even though I feel like I could have done better, I’m not too worried as the remediations helped me further my learning.

ATI PRACTICE A COMPREHENSIVE PREDICATOR

The comprehensive practice exam went better than I had expected. The types of questions that I got were more basic/simple than I had expected. I feel that with more studying and refreshing on topics, I could perform better. To be able to do better in the further I plan on continuing to take ATI practice exams to see where I need to improve. I also plan on purchasing UWORLD as another practice source. I feel that with both ATI and UWORLD questions, I will be able to point out my weak areas and be able to study those areas more efficiently. I feel that these remediations are also extremely helpful as they help point out what the most important parts are of certain topics.

ATI ADAPTIVE MATERNAL/NEWBORN REFLECTION

This ATI adaptive quiz went better than both of the other adaptive quizzes that I have taken. I was really surprised with how many topics I knew and how well I had retained the information from class. I think I felt a lot more confident on this quiz because I just recently finished taking my pediatrics class therefore, all the information is still fresh in my mind. Before taking this quiz, I went in unsure of how well I would do. For some reason, I didn’t have much confidence in myself. This experience has taught me to never doubt myself because I know more than I think I do. I just need to stick with my gut answer. When taking these quizzes I feel like I get on a roll with answering the questions and then I randomly make mistakes because I start to feel comfortable. Next time I need to make sure to take my time with reading every single question to avoid this mistake from happening. When taking following quizzes I plan to remind myself to slow down and take more time to fully understand/read the questions and all the answers.

ATI MEDICAL SURGICAL ADAPTIVE ASSESSMENT

Much like the last ATI quiz that I took this quiz helped me realize what topics I need to spend more time on when studying for the NCLEX. When taking this quiz I didn’t feel like the questions were hard, rather it was information that I knew pretty but needed to review again. There were a few small topics that came up a few times that I knew little information about and I will be sure to go back and write down the topics so that I can make sure I spend more time studying them. I was happy with my overall performance on the quiz, but I feel like I could have done better if I had refreshed myself on the topics before taking it. I liked how this quiz had a lot of prioritization questions as these questions can be very tricky for me. I’m happy that I was able to spend time working on them these types of questions. It was also extremely helpful having rationals provided with all the answers, so you are able to have a better understanding of why the correct answer was correct and why the other answers were wrong. I find that I learn best when I know the reasoning behind it all. I plan on at least taking 5 topics a week and reviewing/studying them. That way I can feel more confident and prepared for when I do take the NCLEX.

ATI Pharmacology Adaptive Quiz Reflection

Taking the ATI adaptive pharmacology assessment was an eye-opening experience. While I was taking the test, I was shocked to see so many medications that I have not heard of or learned about yet. I was also disappointed in myself for not being able to remember more information on the medications that I did know. Taking this quiz helped me realize that I need to spend more time on study medications along with their side effects and their education points. On another note, I was happy with how much information I could recall without reviewing or refreshing my mind on any pharmacology information. I am also proud that I ranked in the “hard” category while taking this quiz. For the future, I plan to take ten medications a week and study them so by the time that I take the NCLEX I will be more prepared than I was when taking this quiz.
